Maternity Portraits by Anna Berg of Creek Street
Anna has more than ten years experience as a pregnancy photographer and has built a solid reputation as one of the leading professionals in her field.
Pregnancy photography, or maternity photography has become increasingly popular since the early 1990s when Demi Moore was photographed during her pregnancy for the cover of Vanity Fair. This style of photography is a unique and timeless way in which to capture one of the most special times of life.
Anna has a relaxed and friendly style which enables her clients to really enjoy the photo session and naturally helps her to capture some wonderful memories of their pregnanacy. Many of Anna's clients have returned after the birth of their child to have newborn portraits taken and furthermore some are now also having family portraits taken by Anna's husband and business partner Ronny.
Pregnancy photography portrait sessions are taken at the Creek Street studio on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. We suggest that between approximately 33-36 weeks is the best time to have pregnancy photos taken.
It looks lovely if you have a sarong or skirt that hangs nicely under your belly, plus a nice bikini top or bra. Please feel free bring any other clothes you would like to wear in the photographs.
If you would like to do any topless or nude photos don’t wear anything too tight that might mark your skin before the session.
The maternity photography session takes approximately one hour Please click here for prices (which include the following):

More Information about Pregnancy Photography
Pregnancy is an intimate part of a woman’s life that, once
gone, cannot be taken back. A personal way to remember the beauty and uniqueness of a woman’s pregnancy is by
taking pictures of her while she is expecting. Such pictures can range from
serious and artistic to playful and fun, but all serve as a special way to
preserve the memories and emotions of that experience.
As with any professional photography, there are a few things
to consider when choosing to spend time and money on maternity photos.
Timing
Pregnancy photos are best taken when the mother is showing
but she is not in danger of going into labor. Generally speaking, the 7th
and 8th months are the best times to take pregnancy pictures.
However, since it takes a few weeks to edit and develop photos, it’s important
to remember that there are few opportunities for second chances if they don’t
turn out as expected.
Photographer
There are many photographers who focus specifically on
pregnancy photography, but it’s important to find the one that best fits the
mother and the family. The right photographer for the job must have:
·
Enough experience and samples to show their
style and capability.
·
An artistic eye and personality that mesh with
that of the subject(s).
·
Professional equipment for shooting and editing.
It’s a good idea to request referrals and talk to women who
have had their pictures taken and developed by the photographer in question.
They can offer some insight into the photographer’s sensitivity and quality of
work, and may have tips for clothing, settings, etc.
As an alternative, women may also want to experiment with
self-portraits or get their partner to take their picture. While professional
photographers will generally have more experience, better equipment and a
variety of perspectives, taking pictures at home can save money and might be
more comfortable for those who are squeamish around a camera.
Subjects
Pregnancy photography is centered on the expectant mother’s
belly, but that shouldn’t necessarily be the only thing in the photo. Pregnancy
photos tell a story about maternity that can include the father, family
members, other children and even pets. Likewise, pictures can show the mother’s
full body, focus solely on the torso or simply be a silhouette of her figure.
Style
There are many ways to approach pregnancy photography to
make it an experience that is unique. Some ways to personalize pregnancy
photographs include:
·
Choosing a location that is comfortable and
fitting to the mother’s personality. Common locations include outdoor settings
such as beaches and fields; places in the home like living rooms, bedrooms and
baby rooms; or formal studio environments.
·
Finding props and backdrops that are natural and
full of expression. Simple black and white settings are effective at
highlighting the natural curves of the pregnant form, but some women find that
bold colors are more conducive to their personality.
·
Deciding what clothing to wear, if any. Many
women choose full or partial nudity, while others feel more comfortable in
dresses or drapes. Women might want to play with different options to find a
look that flatters their shape and makes them feel beautiful.
Also, talk to the photographer about any areas of the body that induce
self-consciousness or discomfort if photographed.
Pregnancy photography captures a moment in a woman’s life
that is full of emotion and natural wonder. With some simple preparation,
expectant mothers can ensure that their pregnancy photos create beautiful keepsakes to cherish for a lifetime.
